303 Protectant & Fabric Care Buying Guide
303 Aerospace Protectant and 303 Fabric Guard solve different problems. One protects compatible hard surfaces; the other restores water and stain repellency to compatible fabrics. This guide helps you choose the right type, prepare the surface correctly, and avoid the most common mix-ups.

Choose 303 Fabric Guard for compatible marine canvas, Bimini fabric, covers, awnings and other woven textiles.

Choose a surface-compatible cleaner when dirt, salt, mildew residue or old treatment must be removed before protection.

Surface-by-surface decision guide
- Marine vinyl seats and trim: clean and dry first, then use Aerospace Protectant if the material and product label allow it. Wipe completely dry.
- Rubber, PVC and hard plastic: Aerospace Protectant is the typical choice for compatible surfaces. Test an inconspicuous spot first.
- Canvas, Bimini tops, covers and woven cushions: use Fabric Guard only after a compatible cleaning process and complete drying.
- Clear vinyl windows and clear plastics: use a product specifically approved for clear vinyl or clear plastic. Do not substitute Aerospace Protectant.
- Finished leather: Aerospace Protectant may be suitable when the leather finish and label permit it. Do not use it on suede or other unfinished leather.
- Decks, floors, steps, pedals and other traction surfaces: avoid protectants that could create a slip hazard.
- Gauges and headlights: choose a dedicated compatible product rather than Aerospace Protectant.
A reliable prep-and-apply sequence
- Identify the exact material. “Boat seat,” “window” or “cover” is not specific enough—confirm vinyl, coated fabric, canvas, clear vinyl, plastic, rubber or leather.
- Read the current bottle label. Formulas, regional directions and precautions can change. The label for the product in your hand always wins.
- Clean with a compatible product. Remove salt, dirt, oils and old residue without damaging the finish.
- Dry completely and test. Test a small hidden area for color, sheen and compatibility before treating the full surface.
- Control overspray. Work with ventilation, protect adjacent surfaces and keep the product off flooring, clear panels and other excluded materials.
- Finish exactly as directed. Buff Protectant completely dry. For Fabric Guard, apply an even damp coat without saturation and allow the full labeled cure time before use or exposure to moisture.
Fabric Guard needs planning
303's application guidance calls for clean, dry fabric, good ventilation, warm conditions of at least 70°F/21°C, an evenly damp—not saturated—application, and 12–24 hours of protected drying before use, liquid exposure or storage. Keep the product and treated material away from heat, sparks and open flame until fully dry.
Common mistakes to avoid
Soil and moisture can prevent an even treatment and compromise the result.
The Protectant does not simply air-dry; excess must be wiped and buffed completely dry.
Clear windows, gauge faces and headlights have different compatibility requirements from opaque trim.
Protect steps, decks, floors and controls from overspray that could make them slick.
A small test can reveal an unexpected sheen, color shift or material incompatibility.
Cleaning prepares the material; choose the correct follow-up protectant only when needed.

Keep products in their original labeled containers and follow the storage, ventilation, personal-protection and disposal directions on the current label and safety data sheet. Keep them away from children. Fabric Guard is flammable; keep it and treated material away from heat, sparks, open flames and smoking until the material is fully dry.
