The McMurdo SmartFind S5A is a manual-deployment AIS Search and Rescue Transponder (SART) designed for use on liferafts and survival craft. This device replaces legacy radar SARTs and helps rescue authorities and nearby AIS-equipped vessels locate survivors by transmitting GPS coordinates, structured alert messages, and a serialized identity number.
